Joe Johnsen

President

Joe Johnsen is President of J Development’s multifamily and commercial real estate development and operations. He established J Development in 2018 with Doug Bowers and has grown the firm into a leader in boutique real estate development in Utah.

Prior to J Development, Joe worked in various aspects of real estate development, transactions, and ownership. Joe started his career in real estate in 2000 working as an assistant to a leading Real Estate Broker. His broad vision of seeing opportunities in multiple areas of real estate development, distressed properties, rentals, and remodels, have created sales of over 200 properties along the Wasatch Front.

Joe has a unique ability to plan, envision, and build multifamily and commercial real estate developments, specifically for niche demographics. He has managed upscale townhomes, active-adult 55+ housing, and golf course master-planned assets. He has raised over $75 million in equity financing bringing to market over 200 residential units with another 800+ in progress. His understanding of partnerships and project metrics provides rewarding opportunities for successful investment returns for shareholders and investors.

Joe is originally from Salt Lake City and graduated from the University of Utah. He and his wife Catherine are the parents of four children.

Doug Bowers

Chairman

Doug Bowers is a Co-founder and Chairman Consultant at J Development, where he advises the firm’s construction and development efforts.

Prior to starting J Development with Joe Johnsen in 2018, Doug founded Teeger Development, a general contractor and developer of commercial and residential projects. Prior to Teeger Development, Doug operated as a general contractor under Bowers Company, which he founded in 1969. As principal, he partnered with James Lavoy Sorensen in 1977 and built numerous commercial assets for Sorensen Research and subsequently formed Bowers-Sorensen Construction Company. After a 1979 Salt Lake City mayor election run, Doug reinstituted Bowers Company, building numerous office, warehouse, and residential projects.

Doug started his career in construction at age 14 working for a homebuilder and assisting subcontractors on job sites. He then worked with Gibbons & Reed excavation managing numerous state and federal projects.

Doug is originally from Salt Lake City and graduated from the University of Utah, and returned in 2010, receiving a degree in Political Science.

Doug and his wife Linda have 8 children, 34 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

Matt Knight

Director

Matt G. Knight is a Director of J Development’s multifamily and commercial real estate development, marketing management, business planning, and PropTech vision.

Prior to J Development, Matt consulted with Utah’s tech community thought leader, Silicon Slopes, where he managed the strategic direction of various operations, marketing communications, and tech initiatives. He established the first PropTech community chapter in Utah focusing on real estate technology.

Matt started his career in real estate management working in a family marcom firm which furnished marketing consultation services and created advertising campaigns to over 200 residential community projects in the Intermountain West. He worked with the Salt Lake Homebuilder’s Association and joined nationally recognized Village Carefree Communities, Utah’s premier active-adult 55+ homebuilder, as a Development and Marketing Director.

He has a uniquely broad, interrelated, and advanced scope of amalgamating the worlds of real estate development and technology with creating successful business directions and marketing results.

Matt is originally from Salt Lake City and graduated from Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois, and the University of Utah in real estate development planning.

James Rankin

Project Superintendent

James Rankin is Project Superintendent at J Development overseeing multiple commercial and multifamily construction projects.

Prior to J Development, James operated as Associate Broker with Chamberlain and Company. He operated as Branch Broker for Windermere Real Estate after leadership roles as Branch and Principal Broker for MediaOne Real Estate, managing 100 local agents in Salt Lake City.

James started his career in real estate in the late 90's as a Foreman for Penrod Construction. He managed framing crews for residential development with Salisbury Homes. After receiving his real estate license in 2001, James worked with RE/MAX Results overseeing new and existing homes transactions.

James is originally from Maryland and studied construction management at Brigham Young University. He is the proud father of two children.

Mark Stephenson

Development Advisor

Mark K. Stephenson is a development advisor at J Development, where he advises the firm’s construction and development efforts.

Currently, Mark is also Owner of Red Mountain Builders, a new home/residential contractor and builder. He has completed over $35 million (100+) new custom homes, light commercial, and various residential development projects.

Prior to J Development and Red Mountain Builders, Mark operated as a Project Manager & Partner for CM Building Systems in Salt Lake City. He completed various PUD, condos, and new custom home and residential renovations.

Mark has managed industrial facility renovations as a Superintendent for Los Angeles Chemical in California. Prior to Los Angeles Chemical, he was a Market Consultant for The Meyers Group in Newport Beach, CA, and oversaw the marketing of the company’s products and services to the building industry.

Mark is originally from Salt Lake City and graduated from Utah State University in Business Finance. In addition, he holds a Light Construction & Development Program designation (LCDM) from the University of California, Irvine. He is a Certified Construction Inspector through the Association of Construction Inspectors.

Mark and his wife Daina have a daughter and live in Draper, UT.

Erica Tavares

Executive Operations

Erica Tavares is an Executive Operations Manager at J Development, where she oversees the management of the firm’s internal construction permitting, compliance, and subcontractor accounts.

Prior to starting with J Development, Erica managed lease and credit applications for underwriting with Fresh Start Management. Prior to Fresh Start Management, Erica was an Underwriter Supervisor and Inside Sales Representative for Crest Financial, where she managed a team of underwriters and processed cash flow and verification of income through banking statements utilizing financial tracing tools.

Erica started her career in business as an administrative assistant supporting customers and managing clerical duties for events and investment accounts.

Erica is originally from Salt Lake City and graduated from Utah Valley University.

Martin Molina

Property Operations

Martin Molina leads the property maintenance division at J Development overseeing multiple commercial and multifamily assets.

Martin has been with J Development for over 10 years and enjoys managing maintenance crews for residential development projects. His team specializes in all aspects of construction operations, including paint, plumbing, and landscaping.

Martin is originally from Mexico and resides in Salt Lake City. He is a proud husband and father of three children.

Jono Hampshire

Director of Finance

Jono Hampshire is a Director of Finance for J Development’s multifamily and commercial real estate portfolio.

Jono brings his expertise in underwriting, capital markets and raising the entire debt and equity capital stack for commercial and multifamily real estate projects nationwide. Jono has raised and closed over $400 million in debt placements through his long-standing partnership with a cadre of lending relationships.

Jono is also a partner in SYNC Properties LLC which is a real estate holding company in connection with properties developed by J Development.

Jono is originally from Salt Lake City and graduated from University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California with his Masters in Real Estate Development, and the University of Utah in Economics. Jono enjoys the outdoors and spending time with his wife and three children.

Hillary Bradshaw

Executive Assistant

Hillary Bradshaw is an Executive Assistant at J Development, where she oversees the management of the firm’s principals and internal operational activities. Hillary maintains scheduling and professional direction of several critical business functions for J Development.

Prior to starting with J Development, Hillary worked for a real estate venture capital firm where she managed the office as well being the executive assistant to the CEO. She oversaw executive management and organized firm events. Hillary has a passion for real estate and office organization.

Hillary grew up on the East Coast and resides in Park City.

Austin Dent

Director Subcontracts & Procurement

Austin Dent is Director of Subcontracts and Procurement for J Development.
Prior to J Development, Austin worked in various aspects of procurement and vendor management. Austin has a passion for the built environment, guiding him to an undergraduate degree in urban planning.

He utilized many aspects of urban geography and GIS for geospatial analysis in Washington DC. He has applied skilled analysis and planning into a variety of complex global supply chain projects.

Austin is originally from Salt Lake City and graduated in business from Arizona State University. Austin is enthusiastic about leveraging his background in supply chain efficiencies and innovations to the AECO industry.
